6-26-2010 The Big Bang
Jun 22nd
Being the Doctor Who fan that I am, actually I’m more of a SciFi fanatic. Anyway, even though Doctor Who is “silly” as far as SciFi goes it’s still great fun to watch, so in honor of that I too have sponsored a crack to appear on my website, if you don’t know what that means just watch Series 5 (what we Americans would call a season on T.V.)
So watch Doctor Who, and enjoy The Big Bang on 6-26-2010.

Would You Believe? A Retro Movie Review: The Nude Bomb
May 25th
Ok, I normally do video reviews, but working out on a daily basis leaves me too exhausted, so this time I figured I would pen a review, The review as you know from the title is for The Nude Bomb, now before you go and think to yourself that I’m reviewing a porno, let me tell you I’m not, The Nude Bomb was the first attempt at making a Get Smart movie based off the original T.V. series, It came out in 1980. Now before I go any further I must inform You of a few things:
1. Barbara Feldon or as you knew her “99″ wasn’t in this movie, she didn’t want to be in a reunion movie.
2. The Chief played by Edward Platt in the television series had already passed away by the time this movie was made, so he was played by Dana Elcar of MacGyver fame.
3. Agent 13 wasn’t played by David Ketchum the original guy that played him in the series, instead we have Joey Forman the guy that played the Chinese detective Harry Hoo from a few episodes of Get Smart playing Agent 13 (Very Odd in my book, but he does a good job).
4. Most reviews I read of this movie are biased in the fact that the first thing they mention is Barbara Feldon and Edward Platt are not in the movie, and they usually start off with “It’s just not the same without 99 and The Chief”
Well what I say to #4 is GET OVER IT!!!, Feldon didn’t want to do the movie, so what where they to do, hold her at gun point?, and Platt was dead, so no chance he could have been in it! (for the sentimentalists in the group Larrabee played by Don Karvelis is in this film) So with that out of the way, I say this movie is simply great, yeah it drags in a couple of parts, but what movie doesn’t? Don Adams is at the top of his game in this movie, he’s funny, he’s slap stick as always and the gags are all here. I don’t want to spoil it so I will give you the cliff notes version.
Kaos has employed an evil henchman called Sauvage who has made a bomb that can dissolve clothing, so he starts by ransoming the world for money not to set off the “Nude Bomb”, but has plans to do so anyway, so P.I.T.S. (not control in this movie, not sure why either) Gets their top man, Maxwell Smart, Agent 86 on the job of finding Sauvage and stopping the Nude Bomb from being detonated. Sauvage wears pantyhose over his head and it’s rather cheap looking at the beginning but it actually is a major plot point and a joke later on, I was actually taken by surprise when I saw that.
Now a big departure from Get Smart and this movie is that since 99 is not in the movie Max is no longer married and their is no mention of 99, Control or anything from Get Smart, now this is a little odd but like I said, if you watch this movie and base it from the stand point that it’s a movie and not a continuation of Get Smart then your sure to get a lot of laughs from this film, I’m a Don Adams fan and have been since growing up and I found this movie to be down right funny, very entertaining and way more than I expected. I even think it’s better than the convoluted mess that the “Get Smart” film with Steve Carell was, I have nothing against Steve, I think he is very funny, but the new “Get Smart” movie down right sucked when compared to even one episode of the original series, and didn’t hold a candle to The Nude Bomb.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
If you liked the Get Smart T.V. series and/or are a Don Adams fan then you should watch The Nude Bomb.
If you cannot get your mind wrapped around the fact that 99 and The Chief are not in this film, then You should watch Get Smart Again!, a made for T.V. movie that came out in 1990 and is very funny in it’s own right, and uses all the original cast that was alive at the time it was made. (I’ll review it another time.)
If you thought the new Get Smart movie was funny and cannot even fathom watching the T.V. Show then avoid The Nude Bomb and be happy knowing that another Get Smart is being made and should be out in 2011.
There you have it, my review of The Nude Bomb.
